Levelling up for sick kids

"There's so much more outside our own lives, and we have so much power to do good. Small gestures can change lives!"

Ruby, or RubeePlays as she is better known in the gaming world, believes strongly in the power of play.  Having visited the Melbourne and Adelaide Starlight Express Rooms, she’s seen first-hand the difference fun and laughter has on sick kids. She says, "Every child should have a childhood. Sick kids should have the chance to laugh and play, and enjoy things just like all children, even if the way this happens is unique to them. Our littlest troopers - going through things that even most adults can't imagine - deserve a chance to be a kid.

Ruby has been driven to support worthwhile causes since she was a teenager, having participated in charity marathons and food drives; "I've always felt that I want to be helping others and making a difference in the world". She is also a passionate gamer who enjoys the challenging world of gaming as quality relaxing time, as well as an activity she and her family and friends can bond over.

Ruby has been a partnered streamer on Twitch for a year and sees streaming as "a brilliant way to connect with people and to hopefully brighten people's days with jokes and fun". Combining her passions for gaming and doing good, this will be the third year that Ruby has fundraised for Starlight through her gaming, and the second year that she has participated in Game Changers, levelling up to bring happiness to sick kids in hospital.

Determined to smash her fundraising goal, this year Ruby will be adding some wild challenges to her score card. She’s up for silly costumes, songs, yucky foods, giveaways, and almost anything fun that will make a difference to sick kids!

Ruby's top tip for fundraisers is to just get involved, because every dollar helps. She recommends signing up to take part in Game Changers, promising that challengers will be backed by amazing supporters. And if you can’t take part, share links on social media, talk about it with friends and family, and donate if you can.

You can follow and support RubeePlays streaming in Game Changers 2020. There are loads of ways to be like Ruby and fundraise for sick kids. Find out how you can help!
