"We have come to love the amazing work Starlight does."

Kerry and Tim love footy, spending time with their children and volunteering for Starlight together.

Tim first came to Starlight in 2005, inspired by a letter from Starlight that contained a young child’s story. “She was the same age as our daughter,” says Tim. “I read about the hardship this young girl was going through and the difference Starlight had made in her life. I decided then and there to volunteer.”

“My first Starlight event was helping out at a BBQ outside an old pub!” says Tim.  “The BBQ was a Friday evening and we were cooking sausages that were selling like hot cakes.  We held that BBQ every Friday night for about four weeks straight and raised a lot of money from hungry partygoers.”

Kerry came to Starlight a little later, initially to support Tim. “For our first event together, our whole family pitched in, including our two young children,” says Kerry. “We sold merchandise in our local shopping centre for Starlight Day.  I came to love the amazing work Starlight does.  I remember at an early event, I met a little Starlight boy who melted my heart and I’ve been supporting Starlight ever since.”

Tim & Kerry volunteering for StarlightWhile Kerry and Tim have continued to support Starlight through fundraising BBQs and Starlight Day, they’ve also volunteered at a number of different events.  These have included everything from AFL games (“Rain, hail or shine!”), hosting tables at the Starlight Five Chefs Dinner and the Clipsal 500 where Tim had a great time ferrying people around in a golf cart, while Kerry sold raffle tickets to corporate racegoers.

“A real highlight for us has been the Christmas shows especially for Starlight families,” says Tim.  “Just hearing the story of a young girl who had been in and out of hospital through many heart operations was something I won’t forget.”

“It was so wonderful to see her at the Christmas show, racing around, enjoying the day,” says Kerry.

Both Kerry and Tim feel the decision to join Starlight as events volunteers has been worthwhile. “We both enjoy being together at events, the amazing people you meet and supporting such a terrific cause,” says Tim.
