Gabe in hospital with his mumEight-year-old Gabe loves the Aussie outback and Australian wildlife. He knows all there is to know about crocodiles, Kakadu and Uluru! Not surprising then, his all-time favourite movie is the classic Crocodile Dundee.

Two years ago, Gabe's life changed forever. The normally adventurous boy suddenly became lethargic and tired. Gabe and his family were faced with the diagnosis that their smiling little boy had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

"After your child is diagnosed with cancer, life is never the same," says Gabe's mum Marshia.

Gabe with his favourite movie, Crocodile DundeeWith his family by his side, hospital became like a second home. Despite the stress and pain of his treatment, Gabe's happy, bright personality shone through. "Even when he was so sick and in the midst of endless rounds of chemo he rarely complained. He just seemed to shine through all the darkness." Marshia said.

When Gabe was in isolation, he watched a lot of movies and discovered the famous Aussie movie, Crocodile Dundee. He was inspired by the wonder and beauty of the Outback. Mum Marshia tells, "he was enthralled by the iconic character Mick Dundee."

It was during his Leukaemia treatment that Gabe was put forward for a Starlight Wish.

Inspired by his number one crocodile movie, Gabriel's Starlight Wish was to explore the Australian Outback. The Wish was all the more special as it marked Starlight's 9000th Wish milestone.

With Akubra in hand, Gabe and his family headed off on an adventure of a lifetime.

Gabe, ready to embark on his Starlight Wish!Gabe's mum said: "As we near the end of Gabriel's treatment, a new life is emerging for us. The cloud of cancer will always be with us, but we are mindful that every day counts. We feel very blessed that we have this beautiful family and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." And as always, her inspiring little boy will lead the way on this adventure.

Gabe's Starlight Wish marked the milestone of the 9000th Starlight Wish granted since 1988.

To celebrate this milestone, Starlight Wishgranting Partner Virgin Australia, Tourism NT and a host of other supporting businesses came together to create a milestone Wish celebration.
