Singer-songwriter and dancer

Singer-songwriter and dancer Timomatic (Tim) has achieved a lot in his life - he’s also produced records, choreographed musicals, been a dance judge on TV and has even dabbled as a magician - now, he can add Starlight ambassador to his list of impressive accomplishments!

Tim was born in Nigeria and moved to Australia with his family when he was a baby. From an early age performing was his passion.

"Coming from a musical family, I grew up singing and dancing,' he said. "I remember I was about nine and we started a band with my brother and sisters and I was the percussionist."

At high school he was nicknamed 'Timomatic' by his friends because of his much loved hip-hop dancing. He went on to attend music school and gained a Diploma in Entertainment, majoring in vocal training.

Tim rose to fame as a contestant on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance in 2009, and in 2011 he appeared as a contestant on Australia's Got Talent. Later that year, he released his first single, "Set It Off" which reached number two on the ARIA Singles Chart and went four times platinum in Australia.

Tim has performed to global audiences and supported leading international artists on tour. In 2013 he returned to Australia's Got Talent, as a popular panel judge. He has achieved wide acclaim in the music industry receiving numerous nominations and awards.

He's also an inspiration to many young people. "When I go back to visit my high school, I say to the kids I'm living proof you can do it. Dream big and hold on to that dream and work really hard for it!” he said.

Tim has supported Starlight for a number of years, but it was a visit on the ward round hosted by Captain Starlight at the Royal Darwin Hospital that sparked his motivation to become more formally involved.

From my very first visit, I knew I wanted to help and be a part of the organisation. Starlight gives me an incredible opportunity to share positivity and joy to kids facing massive adversities. To see kids firsthand light up when they’re around Captain Starlight is really special.

As an artist, Tim loves how Starlight creatively engages with kids. "I love how innovative Starlight’s programs are like Starlight TV which broadcasts to kids too sick to leave their hospital beds and now is available on YouTube so kids around the country feel connected back to Captain Starlight. It's the way Starlight is continually improving its programs to keep up with the technology and demand of the kids that need help that's really impressive."

Tim is always willing to lend his support and we are so thankful for his time, energy and enthusiasm. He has performed at various Starball events, regularly gives auction prizes to fundraise for Starlight and in 2018 helped us open our brand new Starlight Express Room at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

He was also a big hit with kids at our Starlight 30th anniversary celebrations in 2018, teaching the kids how to 'dab' and 'floss' with ease!

Judging by the smiles on the kid's faces, our hip-hop Ambassador's own brand of fun is helping to brighten the lives of sick kids right across the country.
