Media Personality, Health Coach
If she's not dancing, surfing, namaste-ing, travelling or working you'll probably find Olivia (Liv) reading menus and cook books! Not only is she the super-energetic host familiar from our TV screens, she has a Psychology degree and is a certified Health Coach.
Raised in country NSW, Liv landed her dream job after uni as one of the hosts of ABC3 for Kids. She was the face of the flagship show "Studio3" and has also starred in her own extreme sports series "Liv on the Edge."
As a dedicated music-fan (folk and RnB top the list), she co-hosts the popular Channel 10 Saturday morning music video show The Loop with Scott Tweedie.
Despite her busy schedule, Liv generously gives so much of her time to help sick kids and teens through her role as a Starlight Ambassador. She has come along to have fun with kids at Starlight Extravaganzas and has fundraised for various Starlight events including Starlight Day, Five Chefs and Starball.
She also volunteers regularly with Livewire at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, sharing her zest and energy with teenagers dealing with serious or chronic illness. One of her favourite memories volunteering with Livewire was participating in a Young Archies art workshop with teen artists in 2018.
Liv is always in awe of the resilience of the patients she meets in hospital. "Seeing a child or teen who is going through such a hard time be given the chance to smile, laugh, have fun and be detached from their illness even momentarily, is more rewarding than anything else."
Always up for fun, Liv feels right at home when she volunteers in Starlight's hospital programs.
"I'm a big kid at heart with energy to burn so Captain Starlights and Livewire Facilitators are my kind of fun, energetic people. I have a ball hanging out with them and joining in on the cool activities that are offer for hospital patients."
Liv also enjoys participating as a guest host on Livewire.org.au.
Livewire.org.au offers teens a real sense of community online and it makes total sense given the rise of social media. Everything is much easier when you have a support network and people to emphasise with you who understand what you're going through.Olivia Phyland
One of the initial drawcards for Liv to Starlight was the inclusiveness of our programs.
"Starlight helps all sick kids, teens and their families. Their programs don't define anyone by their illness. Everyone is treated fairly and Starlight really lives up to its mission of making more kids and teens smile during tough times. "
Big shout out to Liv for her time and energy as a Starlight Ambassador!
