World Champion Surfer

Mick Fanning Starlight

Mick Fanning's path to surfing greatness has incorporated all the attributes of a champion. He has overcome personal tragedy, career-threatening injury and one of sport's greatest competitive dynasties, in the form of American Kelly Slater, to be crowned world champion three times.

Despite having an incredibly busy schedule travelling the world competing in surfing competitions, Mick still finds the time to grant Starlight Wishes.

The first Starlight Wish he granted was a surf lesson at Sydney's Manly beach. After the surf Mick gave his latest competition surfboard to the wish child signed by all the pro surfers on the tour. The second wish took place at the Margaret River Pro and Mick organised a visit to the VIP tent, a personal tour of the event plus another signed surf board, making it a truly once in a lifetime experience.

Through granting these wishes Mick became aware of Starlight’s programs and joined Starlight as an official Ambassador in 2014.

Since then, he’s granted more special Starlight Wishes like Ben’s, and has generously donated many auction prizes to fundraise for Starlight.

In 2015 Mick opened the Starlight Express Room at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and in late 2016, re-visited the room to kindly deliver presents from his sponsors to the kids and families stuck in hospital over Christmas.
