Tour de Kids Red Centre Challenge 2018
Take an incredible group of dedicated cyclists, some of the harshest conditions in remote Australia and a shared passion to make a difference and you've got Tour de Kids 2018.
This year's tour will be like no other.
The inaugural Tour de Kids Red Centre Challenge will see 11 riders take on a four-day adventure, raising vital funds for our Healthier Futures Initiative, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Starting in Alice Springs, the 370km course will take riders through the rugged terrain of the MacDonnell Ranges, Owen and Telegraph Stations and along the Ross River. Riders will tackle dirt and gravel tracks as they take in the spectacular Outback scenery.
At the end of each day, riders will enjoy a well-earned rest camping under the stars and a hearty meal around the campfire.
However, before jumping on the bike, Tour de Kids Cyclists will be rolling up their sleeves to give Alice Springs Hospital's paediatric playroom a mini makeover!
Never shy of taking on a big challenge, Tour de Kids has committed to raising a staggering $400,000 annually for the next three years, supported by major corporate partners Wesfarmers, Bunnings Warehouse and Sydney Business Park.
The funds raised will enable Starlight to be permanently based in Alice Springs Hospital. And that will make hospital a happier place for sick kids.
Thanks to their incredible fundraising efforts, kids in Alice Springs Hospital will have all the fun and positive distraction of Captain Starlight.
The vibrant, fun playroom will create a welcoming space for Captain Starlight to help reduce fear, anxiety and boredom for children undergoing medical procedures and health checks.
Captain Starlight will be a super drawcard getting kids to come to their hospital appointments and will help boost attendance rates for important health care check-ups.
We can't thank Tour de Kids enough for their support helping bring fun and laughter to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and supporting the long-term well-being of whole communities.
We simply couldn't do what we do without their generous support and commitment on and off the bike.
Best of luck to the team and we can’t wait to see them cross the finishing line!
