Star cooks are only as good as the team around them. So Hayden Quinn was simply shining when he had 8-year-old "apprentice" Lauren helping out at a special day of filming for Starlight Day.

Lauren and friend Maddy played a starring role alongside Starlight Ambassador Hayden for this year's StarBQ. And together they cooked up a storm!

Lauren in hospital

Lauren loves dressing up, so she looked like a true professional, complete with chef hat and apron. And with her own toy kitchen at home, Lauren loves playing chef for her family!

Sadly, Lauren doesn't get to spend as much time playing as she would like. Because of her illness she's in hospital a lot. In the last year alone, she spent 28 weeks in hospital. That doesn't leave a lot of time to do the fun stuff she loves. But thankfully Captain Starlight has been there along the way inspiring her imagination with games, dancing, face painting and lots of laughs.

Hayden, of course, is our super ambassador who gives so much of his time to help sick kids. He knows first-hand just how important family is for them. His younger sister was granted a Starlight Wish many years ago, and Hayden still recalls how much it meant to them. "It was the trip of a lifetime for three young kids. I guess it made us feel like a normal family, having a normal holiday."

The day of filming was a real adventure for Lauren. There were lots of laughs in front of the camera and she loved being fussed over by the hair and make-up team.

Lauren and HaydenDespite it being such a big day, her mum said that night Lauren couldn't stop talking. "She was excitedly telling everyone at home about her very special day. She then insisted on getting her toy kitchen and BBQ out, and dressed in her new apron and hat she pretended to cook us all a BBQ."

Sounds like a whole lot of fun was had by all!

This May, the BBQ is calling you! Turn your next BBQ into a StarBQ and help snag a smile for sick kids just like Lauren. (As Hayden says, it's "too easy!")
