Starlight is proud to launch our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) (9.1 MB). This is an important step in formalising our commitment to reconciliation in Australia and will help Starlight to make a meaningful and long-term contribution to reconciliation.

As Australia's broadest reaching children's charity, we interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people every day in hospitals and communities across the country. Whether it's a child visiting the Starlight Express Room, a young person connecting with Livewire or a family experiencing a life-changing Starlight Wish, we make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of seriously ill children and their families.

Through our Healthier Futures Initiative, Captain Starlight partners with health professionals to visit remote communities across the Northern Territory and Western Australia, encouraging attendance at clinics and reaching over 8,000 children every year.

The difference the Captain Starlights make is enormous; we noticed an immediate improvement from the first trip, which only increases with each visit.

Our vision for reconciliation is to embed values of awareness, acknowledgement and respect of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their culture within our organisation to contribute towards a just, equitable and inclusive Australia. To realise this vision, our RAP is focused on three key areas:

• Emphasising respect
• Enhancing relationships
• Creating opportunities

The value of Respect is at the core of our organisation and through our RAP we will deepen our appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and in doing so, we will embed respect in a way that will positively influence our contribution to reconciliation.

Strong and positive Relationships are at the heart of everything we do at Starlight. Deepening relationships that are built on trust and respect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will ensure that, together, we can work towards reconciliation.

Our programs, as well our employment and volunteering experiences, are based on the principles of positive psychology. By celebrating strengths, we believe everyone can reach their potential. So we are committed to increasing career and business Opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and expanding the reach and impact of our programs.

We have received so much support and advice on our RAP journey, which has contributed to a strong and exciting plan that has been wholeheartedly embraced across Starlight.

Starlight's inaugural RAP will help make a positive contribution to reconciliation because a more just, equitable and inclusive Australia will mean a brighter future for all.
