Sloans and Napoleon Perdis' Story

Donating time and products

Sloans hairdressing and Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics recently brought a splash of colour and more than a dash of flair to sick teens in hospitals around Australia.

In 2013, Livewire opened the doors to a unique in hospital experience in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Enlisting the help of beauty professionals from Sloans and Napoleon Perdis, Livewire transformed Starlight Express Rooms into a pop-up salon!

Sloans and Napoleon Perdis bring some colour to the Starlight Express RoomsNavigating some extreme cases of bed hair is all in a day’s work for the hair professionals from Sloans who got to work giving teens a fresh new look, while the incredible Napoleon Perdis team transformed patients with makeovers and creative nail art.

A surprise visit from former Masterchef contestant, heartthrob and Starlight Ambassador Hayden Quinn was the highlight of one Sydney event, while the Sloans and Napoleon Perdis gift bags packed with a plethora of top-shelf products brought smiles to our teens freshly made up faces.

For teenage patient Yolanda, the pop-up salon was a silver lining to an otherwise tumultuous admission. Along with her sisters, Yolanda was delighted to be pampered. It was a welcome escape from her painful and monotonous weeks in the ward.

Clutching her gift bag and literally glowing, Yolanda luxuriated in those precious moments where she could simply be a teenage girl again. When a staff member commented, “Wow! Don’t you look beautiful?” Yolanda’s father beamed at his daughter and said, “She always does.”

Our Livewire program offers teenagers experiences they may be missing out on while in hospital. A transformative experience for all involved, the pop-up salon certainly achieved Livewire’s goals.

Thank you to the beauty professionals at Sloans and Napoleon Perdis who generously volunteered their time.

Designed to combat loneliness and isolation, Livewire connects teens and young people (10-20 years) experiencing serious illness or disability through creative workshops and social outlets while they’re in hospital, as well as via an online community.

Livewire is proudly supported by nib Foundation in hospitals around Australia.
