Ta da!

We've been brimming with excitement here at Starlight because a very special project of ours is officially ready to present... introducing our brand new Starlight Express Room at Monash Children's Hospital!

Before we give you the lowdown, check out how incredible it looks:

There's a few really cool features of this room; as you can see - we've decked it out with a balcony! This is our first ever Starlight Express Room with an outdoor space, so it means our kids and families will be able to get some fresh air when they come to visit, and Captain Starlight can work their magic under the sun, too!

There's also a kitchen with an island bench, which will be great for all sorts of cooking and art shenanigans!

Parents will have their own little nook in this brand new space too, which is sectioned off but completely open, so they can keep an eye on their little ones while they're having fun with Captain Starlight. Cool, right?

And of course - the room is fit out with the latest in art, craft, gaming and technology!

The Monash Starlight Express Room has been so important for sick kids like Jack, who's a regular at the hospital. Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Room helped give him hope and happiness at a time that was full of fear, uncertainty and pain as he fought a complex brain condition. It gave Jack the motivation to start moving again, and provided a space to play with his brother and escape the reality of being in hospital. And now, he's got a flashy new space to play in!

On 11 October 2017, we officially opened the room with the help of special guests including Starlight ambassadors Guy Grossi, Jack Gunston and Chris Mayne

With the help of Starlight child Jack, celebrity chef Guy officially cut the ribbon (which was actually a pasta ribbon - cute, hey?) to open the room, and then the celebrations began!

Each ambassador got up on stage for a bit of Q&A with Captain Starlight, and answered questions like "What would your Captain Starlight name be?" to which Guy answered Captain Creative (because he wants to be more creative!), Chris answered Captain Curly (his locks were obviously the inspiration behind this!) and Jack answered Captain Lanky (because of his height!)

There was also a craft table (how could there not be, at a Starlight Express Room!), which our lovely supporters enthusiastically got stuck into.

It was amazing to have Jack  there to celebrate this huge milestone. He got a huge round of applause from the whole room when we shared his story about how much of a positive difference the Monash Starlight Express Room has made to his hospital experience.

Captains and Jack

Overall, it was a wonderful morning celebrating this huge step for Starlight - and we couldn't have done it without the generous help of Gandel Philanthropy, Lendlease, our Star Ball Committee and the Chain Reaction Foundation! Thank you so much!
